Apply Advanced First Aid - (Occupational First Aid)

HLTFA402B  - Statement of Attainment

Instructor Guarantee:

 

Medical Rescue guarantees our course instructor will be a qualified and experienced Intensive Care Paramedic with real Ambulance Service experience or a qualified and experienced Intensive Care Nurse with real intensive care hospital experience.

 

Medical Rescue guarantees you do not have to sit through instruction from a part time first aid attendant, a first aid is my hobby instructor, or somebody who has no real hands on experience. Our instructors have more than 15 years in the field each.

 

Medical Rescue Guarantees all our Instructors al have Certificate IV Assessment and Training or TAA and have instructed many first aid courses and trained, coached mentored many ambulance and nurse students.


Course Outcome:

This unit deals with the provision of advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

This unit also addresses the establishment and maintenance of facilities to enable or facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace. 

This unit also incorporates the content of HLTFA404A Apply advanced resuscitation techniques.

Entry Requirements:

Prerequisite to attend this course:

 

 The student applicant must have and produce one of the following certificates or equivalent and - must be current.

·         Apply First Aid -  HLTFA301B – Statement of Attainment,

·         Workplace First Aid (Senior First Aid) Certificate.

Booking and Enrolment Procedure:

 

·          No individual bookings - Group  Bookings only

·          Minimum booking and fee is for 10 students (contact us if you have less than 10 students)

·          Please email us for further information or to start the procedure for booking a course.

Nominal Duration:


28 hours
nominal course time and can be tailored to your needs  - depending on course size and does not include breaks.

Example of course delivery:-

·          4 days of 7 hours per day face to face lessons

·          7 days of 4 hour lessons

·          14 days 2 hour lessons

Qualification:

 

·         Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment - Apply Advanced First Aid  - HLTFA402B

  • Valid for 3 years

To receive a Statement of Attainment you must -:

·          Attend each and all face to face sessions

·          Pass the Theory Assessment and Practical Demonstrations

Note: The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends that you attend a resuscitation update every 12 months.

Competencies to be achieved during the training:

At the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

·         Apply First Aid to a casualty suffering Crush Injuries

·         Maintain the correct WorkCover documentation & Legislative requirements of an Occupational First Aider

·         Undertake the correct requirements for Running a First Aid Centre & Apply correct administration for Medications

·         Demonstrate the Safe use of Medical Oxygen Equipment

·         Administer Oxygen Therapy and Resuscitation to a casualty

·         Demonstrate an understanding of Toxicological Hazards and the use of Material Safety Data Sheets

·         Assess the Hazards of Confined Spaces

·         Administer First Aid for casualties suffering from Extremes of Temperature

·         Administer First Aid for Minor Wounds & Apply Infection Control Procedures

Assessment Procedure:

You will be assessed at the end of the course to show your instructor that you have an appropriate understanding of the procedures necessary to manage a life-threatening situation.

This will consist of:

  • Examination paper (multiple choice & short answer)
  • Resuscitation demonstration (one and two persons)
  • Oxygen Resuscitation & Oxygen Therapy demonstration

You must pass each section to qualify for the Statement of Attainment.

Facilities & Equipment:

·         Each participant will be provided with all of the intellectual materials required to study all modules.

·         Each program will also be supported with adequate Teaching Aids to assist with the theory and practical training modules such as CPR manikins, Bandages, Visual Aids, Handouts etc as appropriate.

Primary First Aid Management

 

 

1. Define Crush Syndrome

 

- The potential physical effects & complications of Crush Injuries & Crush Syndrome

2. Demonstrate the first management of a conscious and unconscious patient suffering with crush injury and/or crush syndrome

 

- First Aid Priority DRABCD Action Plan
- Management of a conscious and unconscious patient suffering with crush injury &/or crush syndrome

3. Demonstrate a knowledge of the content and requirements of relevant state government legislation relating to workplace first aid

 

- Appropriate First Aid Regulations or Codes of Practice

4. Demonstrate a knowledge of the content and requirements of the 'Register of Injuries'

 

- Why it is necessary to maintain accurate records of all injuries in the workplace.
- Accurate completion of case records and other relevant documentation.

5. State the various routes of administration that a first aider is permitted to administer a medication

 

- The (3) drug schedules most relevant to the first aider

- Administering oxygen therapy to a breathing patient suffering hypoxia by using a :-
· Bi-nasal Cannula
· Fixed face mask.

13. Describe why First Aiders must seek medical advice / aid during administration of Oxygen to patients

 

- Pay-Off Principle
- Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (C.O.A.D.) eg Emphysema

14. Demonstrate the safe use of Oxygen powered suction to a patient's airway

 

- Correct and efficient techniques for providing oxygen-powered suction to both breathing and non-breathing patients.

15. Demonstrate the correct method of administering Oxygen Resuscitation

 

- Appropriate selection and correct, safe and efficient assembly of oxygen-powered equipment supplied in class.

· Self-Inflating Bag & mask
· Manual Oxygen Powered Resuscitator.
