The Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crew) is the nationally recognised qualifications for Helicopter Rescue Crew in Australia. The course will provide skills and knowledge for the student to undertake ‘Down the Wire’ Rescue Crew duties and is suitable for personnel operating on board an Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Search and Rescue (SAR), Police, Law Enforcement or Military helicopter.

The Units of Competency are specifically selected so that the student receives theoretical, practical and scenario based instruction in skills and techniques where they will gain a level of competence to allow them to participate as a rescue crew person on board an EMS/SAR/Military helicopter in the operational helicopter environment.
The course can be tailored through selection of specific elective Units of competency for Government agencies such as Rescue, Fire, Police, Medical and Military. Certificate III Rescue Crew graduates may elect to further extend their training to complete a Certificate IV Aviation (Rescue Crew) to become an Aircrewman and hoist operator.
Instruction is provided by qualified and experienced Helicopter ‘Down the Wire’ Rescue Crew with extensive helicopter rescue backgrounds.
Participants will develop skills in safe working practices in the aviation workplace, winching, managing loads, health and security procedures, and managing emergency situations in a helicopter.
The Certificate III in Aviation (Rescue Crewman) course is for anyone who wishes to participate in a career as a helicopter crewman in the aviation industry and includes important background information, aviation theory and skill development in a range of aviation operations.

Maintain the safety of people and aircraft
Respond to abnormal and emergency situations in the aircraft
Undertake aircraft underwater escape and survival
Work safely around aircraft
Complete aircraft/equipment pre- and post-flight actions
Maintain basic situation awareness in the aviation workplace
Perform wireman duties
Manage human factors in aircraft flight
Work in an aviation environment
Search as a member of an air search team
Provide basic emergency life support
Apply advanced resuscitation techniques
Elective Units of Competency can be modified to meet organisational requirements.
