Dr Glenn McKay – Director

glennmckayGlenn completed his medical training at Otago University Medical School in 2002 and holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Science (physiology), Graduate Certificate (pharmacy) Postgraduate certificate in aeromedical evacuation and a Postgraduate Diploma in aeromedical retrieval and transport.  Glenn’s combined experience working for the family trucking business in New Zealand and more than 10 years as an emergency doctor in hospitals and remote prehospital environments has been key to the Medical Rescue Group. He has been involved with multiple rotary and fixed wing aeromedical organisations and has worked in pre hospital environments for the military, RFDS, ski patrols, offshore oil & gas sector, and disaster response teams. He is a commissioned medical officer with the Australian Defence Force and presently fills clinical roles in international assistance, aeromedical retrieval,  and pre hospital medicine. Glenn has taught as an Assistant Professor on the teaching faculty for the post graduate degrees in Retrieval Medicine and has completed postgraduate training in aeromedical retrieval and transport through the University of Otago School of Aviation Medicine. 

Brian MacDonald – Director

brianBrian is a qualified Civil Engineer (B.EngHons), Manager and Company Director. He has in excess of 25 years’ experience in corporate leadership roles in the fields of mining and resources, investment management and construction/development project management. These roles include former CEO roles with major international resources firms Vale and AMCI International and Senior Executive roles with Australian based international firms including the former MIM Holdings and Thiess Pty Ltd.

Brian has extensive corporate and multi-disciplinary business experience internationally, and in particular throughout Asia, including significant experience with international funding and financial relationships.

More recently Brian has been involved with leading and establishing numerous start-up companies in various fields including Engineering and Mining services, Aviation and Aerospace services, Materials technology and Automotive Engineering services. These include the now publicly listed Calibre Group Limited (ASX:CGH) and the privately owned groups’ Connect Resource Services (in Australia and throughout Asia), Aviation and Aerospace Services International Pty Ltd. He presently also manages a diversified group of business investments via the privately owned ADV Resources a Limited Partnership.

Michael Smith – Director: Medical Rescue Training Pty Ltd

mickMichael has been practicing pre-hospital medicine for over 11 years and has been an Intensive Care Paramedic for the past 12 years with NSW Ambulance. He holds a Bachelor of Health Science through Victoria University and an Advanced Diploma in Paramedical Science. He has worked with both rotary and fixed wing aircraft and has a strong focus and experience in evaluation safety systems that allow for the safe delivery of care to patients.

Michael is a Director with the Medical Rescue Training Academy and has developed courses surrounding first aid, aeromedical evacuation. He overseas planning and policy for all Training.  Michael is on the Board of Directors with the Australian & New Zealand College of Paramedicine and is actively involved with the push for the National Registration of Paramedics in Australia.

Dr Mark Shirran – Medical Director

Mark graduated in medicine from the University of London in 2001. He moved to Australia in 2004 and has since completed his advanced training in emergency medicine. He works full-time as a Staff Specialist Emergency Physician at the Gold Coast University Hospital ED.

Mark has a specialist interest in pre-hospital/retrieval medicine and has worked in various operations on fixed and rotary platforms, both here and in the UK, including London’s Air Ambulance HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service), Essex & Herts HEMS,CareFlight Qld and RFDS. He has also completed a pre-hospital fellowship with Queensland Ambulance Service and continues to work part-time for them as a Senior Ambulance Medical Officer, with regular shifts on the Brisbane Trauma Response Team.

Dr Tim Harraway – Medical Director

Dr Tim Harraway , MBChB (Otago), FACEM

Dr Harraway is a Specialist in Emergency Medicine with extensive experience in pre hospital medicine, retrieval medicine and clinical education. In addition to his role as a Medical Director for  Medical Rescue’s clinical services, Tim is also a Staff  Specialist at the Gold Coast University Hospital Emergency Department.

Jeff Beaty – Director Mine Site Solutions

JeffJeff has been a Senior Mining Executive with extensive experience in open cut and underground coal and metaliferous operations, exploration, gas drilling, and civil construction projects in Australia and internationally. Jeff has led large multifunctional teams in the application of health and safety, risk, business development, operations, environmental management and community/government relationship roles.


Air Commodore John Oddie (ret) 

john-oddieJohn is a civil and military qualified helicopter and heavy transport pilot, manager and company director. With over 35 years in Australian Military Service, primarily with the RAAF. John has both operated and lead humanitarian assistance, disaster response, peace keeping and military operations and in the development and governance of Australia’s military air lift systems.
These roles included appointments as the forward commander of Australia’s initial response to Banda Aceh to the Asian Tsunami, as the Deputy Commander of Australia’s Middle East Forces, and as Commander of Air Lift Group. Since retiring from the RAAF in 2012, John has established a successful business consulting on strategy and risk to both commercial and government organisations. He has also served on the Defence Airworthiness Board.
