Dr Glenn McKay trained at the University of Otago Medical School and completed postgraduate studies in aeromedical retrieval and transport at Otago’s School of Aviation Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Rural Remote and Humanitarian Healthcare at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Griffith School of Medicine & Dentistry. He has served on the faculty for Bond University’s postgraduate degree in Retrieval Medicine and is a regular guest speaker in business ethics at Bond University Law School.
In 2003, Glenn founded Medical Rescue in Australia and has since led the growth of the Medical Rescue group of companies. His clinical career spans flight medicine across rotary and fixed-wing operations, emergency and pre-hospital care for the military, RFDS, ski patrols, and the offshore oil and gas sector, as well as disaster response. He has served as a Medical Officer at Kokoda Barracks for the Department of Defence and held a commission with the Australian Defence Force Reserves.
Glenn’s operational experience is dual-tracked: he has performed as a frontline clinician in high-acuity, time-critical environments — and as a capability architect, designing, building, and delivering remote and austere medical systems from the ground up. He has planned and stood up medical support for operations where no infrastructure existed, translating clinical requirements into deployable capability across logistically complex and resource-constrained environments. Glenn has played active roles in humanitarian response coordination and field deployments, and is a recipient of both the Australian National Emergency Medal (Bushfires and Floods) and the Humanitarian Overseas Service Medal (Indian Ocean Tsunami).
